What does the future hold for Gap? Gap Inc. owns Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic. It also owns some niche stores like Athleta. As it's been reported that Old Navy has been more profitable than Gap and Gap is closing out of several malls, could it make Old Navy the primary store chain (e.g. Old Navy Inc.), and then close or sell out the Gap entirely? Or, will it always keep Gap even if Gap becomes a limited hard to find type of store, found in only 2-3 malls per major metropolitan area.
I don't know if Banana Republic and Athleta would make sense as part of Old Navy without the middle brand, Gap.
