Title: Anyone good with paint schemes?
Post by: Ameskid on November 11, 2014, 01:37:25 AM
Hey there. Looks like the local Big Lots never repainted the back of the stock room, and I'm trying to figure out who the previous tenant may have been based on this paint scheme. Any ideas...?

No idea, but a couple things that might help people:

1. General idea of where this is (could eliminate chains that weren't in the area).

2. Any idea of what type of store it was?  Like any clues that it may have had cooling cases (aka likely a supermarket)?

My mistake - just realized that I forgot to include that information.  It's located in Bellevue, KY, in a 1960s-era strip mall.  I'm pretty sure it would have been some sort of discount store, judging by the type of area it's in.  The paint scheme does look to be quite old, and seeing as the Kroger and Save-A-Lot food stores near it appear to have only been around since the '80s, it could have been any number of things.

I do know that the store has been there long enough to have fixtures from the "Big Lots/Odd Lots" era, but apart from that, I have no clue regarding age.

I am going to say it reminds me a bit of Phar mor  they were pretty good size and some became super phar mor
If big lots didn't  change the floor  they had a 1 hour photo lab  t words the front and the floor  is usually stained from chemicals

That's certainly a possibility - I found a Phar-Mor cart a few miles away from it not too long ago.  I'll have to see what the floor looks like next time I head down there.

How about the fixtures?

Not sure about those, I'll check when I head back.

In the meantime, here's another mystery store, from Newport, KY - right across the riverfront from Cincinnati.  I'm guessing this was a grocery store at one point.  Oddly, it looks to have been split horizontally - half is a KOI Auto Parts store and the other half is, apparently, parts storage.  It was a Rite Aid at some point, but I don't think that's what it was originally...
