Title: Walmart Plaza Southington, CT
Post by: ynkeesfn82 on May 25, 2013, 01:38:21 PM
Walmart Plaza is located at 235 Queen Street in Southington. It was built in the early 1970s as Village Plaza and featured Caldor and Village IGA. For years even going back to when Caldor anchored the plaza they had trouble keeping tenants. As of late they've had a pretty steady tenant roster and now has only one vacancy. The plaza is owned by Cedar Realty Trust. It's "L-Shaped." http://www.cedarrealtytrust.com/property.aspx?p=131

I think it was also called Caldor Village.  Was the Village IGA in the later A & P space?

Yes. The IGA closed (not sure what year) and Foodmart moved from The Southington Parkade (now Shoprite Plaza) in 81 or 82.

The Caldor was built with the "swept wing" design for the 21st Anniversary of Caldors, store looked similar to this one

It sure was. To the left of Caldor was a store called The Music Shop. Caldor kept that look and the Rainbow logo until they closed.

Great Clips Salon replaced Liberty Tax in the summer of 2014. Soverign Bank changed its name to Santander Bank.  The former Accuvision remains vacant.
Title: 1977 Tenants Caldor Village Plaza
Post by: ynkeesfn82 on September 23, 2015, 08:07:06 PM
The Walmart Plaza in Southington was known as The Caldor Village Plaza. I'm looking at a copy of The Southington Observer from 1977 and from advertisements I am able to put together a list of some of the other tenants in the plaza.

Caldor
Party King (Party Supplies)
Southington Organ & Piano Company
Frank's Pizza Restaurant
Village IGA
Suburban Decorating Center (Paint, Wallpaper, etc)
Trim Fashions (Store catering to larger women to help them look trimmer)
Jefferson Federal Savings Bank

Went to Walmart on Thursday. They painted the plaza. It's tannish-brownish now matching Walmart. The plaza looks 100% better. It was as done recently as we had just been to Walmart a couple weeks ago and it wasn't changed.

Was at Walmart a couple weeks ago. They repainted the exterior of the store. Sorry for no pictures.

Deathblow to this plaza. NAMCO and CT Lighting Center are closing. CT Lighting Center is moving to Graham Place near Pilgrim Furniture City.
