It seems like everybody wanted to talk about hotels so much on the random photo page, I've decided to start a thread on it. If this isn't allowed, I'll move it to general lol
to start off, here's a sleep inn. I like Sleep's old logo with the sun much better than the new one. The old one was so much more comfortable-looking than the new one. This one had the old logo, I think it was replaced with the new one maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I think this place was built in the early 90's (Sleep's been around since 1988)

Here are other new logos. Again, i don't think the new logos are better .
The Red Roof logo looks spray painted and Radisson's does not look very upscale for that hotel chain.
I don't like the new Comfort Inn logo...it looks ugly

As I stated before I prefered the sun logo but it made all the chains look the same
I'd have to admit the new logos are very distinctive in differences of variety but they don't look as great and prefessional like the sun did

BTW, I absolutely HATE Raddison's new logo. I LOVED the old logo. Like Sleep Inn's/Quality's/Clarion's/Comort's, it was much more comfortable looking. Red Roof's and radisson's are too "casual" looking, which I don't like.

I agree Days Inn has a great logo it just have a funny name lol:insane: but I wouldn't change it!;)
At least motel 6's logo still keep the classic 6 and doesn't look as bad as the rest of those other logo remakes!:yup:
I work for Choice Hotels. The reason the logo's were all changed from the "sun" logo's to what they are not was in fact to differentiate the brands from each other. Most people didnt understand why it would cost $49.95 a night to stay at a Sleep Inn and 149.95 per night to stay at a Clarion.
All the others fell in line btw the two price points. Choice hotels also owns Econolodge and Rodeway Inn's but you rarely see them advertise those chains names withe other more modern ones (all listed in this post earlier).
I didnt like the change from the "sun's" either, but from a business side, it makes a lot of sense.
Interesting point to be made. All Sleep Inn's are built as brand new buildings. Sleep Inns are NEVER conversions from other hotel chains. :yup:

here's a quality. This was formerly another motel. We stayed here twice and it wasn't that great. ok though. (btw the 1st time we stayed here in 2002 it still had the old sun logos. when we came back in 2003 they were changed to the new ones

Do you guys ever seen Journey's End Motels ?? It was a major canadian hotel chain. They had hundreds of motels in Canada. The motels were built as brand new buildings with the same style.
They had 12 motels in NY state, 1 in Springfield MA, 1 in Maine, 1 in RI and two in CT. In Canada, they were replaced with Choice brands like Comfort and Quality Inn.

This one was formerly an Executive Inn then a Radisson and then a Park Plaza..It was built in 1960 as Exec. and was heavilly renovated in 1984 (cant you tell??) and became a Radisson. In 2002 it became PP but when PP bought the place the quality of this hotel really went down...So much that there was mold growing on the windows!!! It closed in July 2004.

Millenium. This was built in 1972 or 73 as a Sheraton, and was a Sheraton up until recently. It became Millenium a few months ago. My aunt and uncle had their wedding reception here in 1995 and it was really fun (even though I was only 4 I still remember it!!)
BTW to tell you the truth I do kinda like Comfort's new logo..at least they kept the Sun!! LONG LIVE THE SUN!!!!

It seems that some of the chains (Red Carpet being one, Econo/Travel Lodge I know of also) have been used on pre-existing, formerly independent, often older & smaller motels - in order to get the benefits of a known name and the services that come with it, assumably. The only problem with that is that when you see a listing for one of these, you really have no idea what it will be like.

Actually, some are Buffalo, some are Michigan, some are canada, and some are in Pensylvania (I do quite a bit of traveling). I'd say theyre all about even. Quite a bit are from the Buffalo area though.
Do you guys remember Susse Chalet ?? I liked this hotel chain. They had nice, recent motels troughout the northeast. I liked their logo and name too because it was different than the usual words "inn" or "lodge" .
They had around 35 hotels and most of them were new constructions with a common style.
Some locations featured a bedside control center wich is probably inspired by Hojo's pamper panel.

Does anyone remember the old original "Knights Inn" brand?
The hotel was laid out in a white and brown painted castle setting. Now days, the Knights Inn name is often used on converstion properties and the old original Knights Inn buildings are called something else. Does anyone remember these from "years" ago. Here are all the logo changes that occured in the past years. The best to me are Best Western, Days Inn and Comfort that are still classic in a way. The worst changes are Radisson, Econo Lodge and Red Roof Inns.

The Days Inn in Watertown NY just lost its Denny's. Now the owner says he is trying to get another restaurant in there. He is also saying that he might even switch the hotel to another chain as well. Not too much to choose from, though. There's already a Quality Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Ramada and Best Western there.

It's not on their website, but there was an article in The Meriden Record-Journal that The Days Inn on Route 322 in the Milldale section of Southington, CT was sold and will re-open in a few months as an Econo Lodge.

The place is so dirty and disgusting that there is belief among the employees of The Price Chopper next door is that when you get a room at The Howard Johnson you get 4 Mice for the price of 1.
the hotels I usually stay at are like Super 8 or Motel 6 (at least it saves money) and they have free wireless. I stayed at a few hotels like Best western in HAckensack and this expensive one in Phili and there was 20 more dollars than the advertised price!!! I hated those added on costs.
in hotels I have stayed at I am happy that no one (bellboy) tries to help me with my luggage and him start grabbing it to help me. You can guess why I dont want someone to help me with my luggage.
When I went to King of Prussia, PA last summer I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. I had a great stay. I was originally gonna stay at the Motel 6 but the person I was going to be seeing told me not to stay there because someone was murdered in that hotel 10 or 15 years ago.
When my parents vacationed in Keene, New Hampshire last summer they enjoyed their stay at the Best Western. The construction didn't bother them. Nor did the fact that the workmen accidently set off the fire alarm. Their only complaint was it was hard naviagating that main drag in Keene (Route 9/Route 10) whatever because of all the congestion and the fact that they had rotaries rather than traffic lights.

Did you drive a car there? That might be why - most of the in-city type hotels charge extra for parking.

The Days Inn logo is way better. The new Super 8 logo is not officially released i think, i found the new one away in the website of Wyndham hotels, owner of Super 8. It just does not seem to fit inside the "classic frame" of the signs...

There's been a lot of new hotel openings bewteen 2003 and 2009 in northern New England, nearly 25 new hotels have been built.
It's nice to have more options but even with increased competition, rates are not going down. The problem is that most new hotels are Hampton Inns, Fairfield Inns, Courtyards, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites and Hilton Garden Inns.
They all are nice hotels but not the cheapest. I would prefer to have new LaQuinta, Microtels, Red Roof Inns or Days Inns. :yup:
Heres the old Days Inn in Hudson NH on Lowell road was torn down in 2008 for a Walgreens (Walgreens paid 1.4 Million i believe) it was kinda a eyesore i think it was across from the Hudson(Plaza)Mall

A new LaQuinta just opened in a former Clarion Hotel in Manchester NH. The hotel also used to be a Ramada Inn.
In Augusta Maine, Hampton Inn will demolish the Econo Lodge to open a new hotel in 2012. Econo Lodge formerly was a Travelodge which formerly was a Days Inn and it started as a Holiday Inn!
They are currently in the process of upgrading the Clarion on Hotel near ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut to a Double Tree. Massive expansion/renovation going on. Supposed to open in First Quarter 2013.
Over in Southington, CT new owners bought the majorly distressed Red Carpet Inn (formerly Traveler's Inn formerly Travel Lodge, formerly Red Roof Inn, originally Howard Johnson) in 2009 and gave it a complete overhaul and it's now a Days Inn. Really nice.
Meanwhile the Howard Johnson Express next to Price Chopper in Southington became a Knights Inn a few years back. It's still as much of a pit as it was when it was Ho-Jos.
The founders of the Susse Chalet brand are still very active in the hotel business, as evidenced by their recent conversion of the former Clarion in Manchester, NH to the La Quinta flag. Susse Chalet went under in part because national brands with strong awareness drive reservations. Even within the realm of national brands, some are stronger than others within different sectors of the hotel business. Knights Inn is the bottom rung of the economy sector, at least within the Wyndham portfolio of brands, and the properties that affiliate with that flag generally reflect that status.

Just to re-quote this 7 year old quote from the original post ;) - That location is part of a plan by the Cocca's to do several changes to their hotels in the area.
If all works out, they will re-do this hotel (adding a 3rd story, but only adding a net 5 or so rooms - so also redoing the existing rooms to make them larger) and it will become a LaQuinta (I believe - this story was in the TU several weeks back). They will them move the TraveLodge brand to their location at the corner of Wolf & Central.
Additionally, they are in the market to either sell outright the two hotels at the Latham Circle (LaQuinta and whatever) - (these were partially owned by a now-deceased family member) then use their share of the money to build a new hotel on their Route 7 Latham property OR sell the Route 7 property (most likely it would be demolished and something built there, not necessarily a hotel - deepnding on the new owners) and buy out the estate of the family member to get complete control of the 2 hotels on the circle.

- Disney's Villas at Wilderness Lodge Resort

I'd have to admit the new logos are very distinctive in differences of variety but they don't look as great and prefessional like the sun did

I must be in the minority that actually thought the old sun logo was ugly. Granted, this was ten years ago, so opinions have probably changed. But for me, the new Choice Hotels logos were a welcome change. They're much more pleasing to the eyes, and actually make the brands look different from one another.

If you're in the minority, I'm there too. I completely agree with what you said about the Choice logos.
Now for my $0.02 on the rest:
I don't like the newest Motel 6 logo. I think it's ugly. The only other one I really hate (besides BW's newest) is the Red Roof Inns. I like the rustic charm that the old logo gives off. It has a bit of class to it, where the newest one is just lacking.

I have some photos of 2 hotels, aka the Comfort Inn in Bristol, VA and the B Hotel in Orlando, FL.
The B Hotel is a 2 star hotel located in the WDW area. It's nearby some 3 and even 4 star hotels on the Downtown Disney road.
It's a very basic hotel, but it can bump its value due to it's extreme proximity to WDW. I went in March 2016, and didn't have my camera yet.

Comfort Inn in Bristol, VA is a typical chain location, 2 stars, convenient access to I-81, and some food options around the area. Nothing special about this at all. They started some roof work shortly before I left. I went in July 2017, and took some photos:

Yeah. Generally there's no coming back from an incident like that. On Wolcott Road in Waterbury, Connecticut since the long vacant Brass City Diner. Prior to that it sat vacant for several years after the previous diner closed and a homicide. (Might have been a shooting). Interestingly enough while the Brass City Diner was in operation a Denny's opened across the street in the ShopRite Plaza in the former Casual Male XL store. I think Denny's should've opened in the building where the Brass City Diner was instead. It might have cost them less money to renovate the building since it had previously been a restaurant.
