On my trip to Vermont recently I finally had time to stop and snap a few pictures of this former Grossman Lumber in Montpelier, VT.
It still looks pretty much like a Grossman's!
How many locations did Grossman have? When did they cease to exist? The one in Bristol, Connecticut located at the corner of Mountain Road and Middle Street was ripped down and an Aldi's was built in its place. Aldi's has been there close to 15 years now.

I've posted this pic elsewhere, but here is the Keene, NH location back in the 1980's.
It was demolished after closing and something new has been being built there for the past few years
I believe they still exist in their Bargain outlet store version which is still owned by Grossman's, I thnk they are called Bargain Outlet or something like that.
They probably went out as "Grossman's" sometime in the very early 90s. When we first started getting Home Depot here is when they seemed to dissapear.

The A&P in Marlton, NJ closed and became a Grossman's in 1975. For 20 years now, it has been a Staples.
This is similar to the Staples in Springfield, PA. The store started out as a Penn Fruit. After that it was a Channel home center. Channel closed in 1990. These were two of the first Staples in the Philadelphia area.

There was also a Grossman's in NE Philadelphia that also started out as an A&P. This one was located on Bustelton Avenue, across the street from the Leo Mall, which was anchored by a J. M. Fields, Pantry Pride (this location was not the combo store setup) and Leo Mall Theatre. Today, the A&P/Grossman's is a Rite Aid Pharmacy location that used to be in the Leo Mall (which has been demolished and replaced by The Home Depot)
Grossman's had a store on Pine Street in Manchester, CT and when I was about 9, I was watching the PennCentral deliver 2 boxcars to them. A few years later, they moved to Spencer Street...

Apparently not much interest in leasing an old hardware/lumber store in that area!
The ones locally have been converted to other uses:
One in Rensselaer, NY was one of their "Bargain outlet" stores for a time, has now been remodeled with Family Dollar (quickly switched to Dollar Tree after their merger) taking part of it and the rest remains available.
Down in Greenport (Hudson), NY, the store became a very large video store of a small local chain for a time, then went back to the "family" being the Bargain Outlet and is now used for private uses (storage I'd suspect, maybe some work or office space but nothing open to public access).
The location in Latham, NY is still open as a Bargain Outlet (their other stores in the area still existing are in other buildings, the Colonie one part of a former Sysco building and the Schenectady one in what was built as a Sears Hardware).
Their was also a downtown Schenectady location on Erie Blvd. that was a Bargain Outlet before they moved to the Sears Hardware location. I'm not certain it was ever a regular Grossman's (the building itself is different style as it was originally a D&H Railroad warehouse, but from a picture here (http://www.preservenys.org/uploads/3/1/6/2/31626961/feasibility_study_1410_erie_double-sided_setup-1.pdf) on Page 13 it looks like their style of the 3 entry/exit doors (with one boarded over when used as the Bargain Outlet). The last info from 2014 was that they were looking to reuse it for a cooperative market, but not sure of any more recent interest (since this site is not far from the newly built casino in Schenectady, for those who know the area at all).
