Here's the Filene's at Crossgates Mall in Albany.
one thing what the......................LOL
Do you think the new Federated-May will keep the regional brands like Filene's alive? I hope so. If most stores are becoming Macy's and the Filene's in a Macy's market are closed i don't think it will be a good thing.
Many malls will have a big vacant Filene's and no mall that wants to appear healty would want a big anchor store vacant.
The mall near me in Auburn, MA (http://www.simon.com/mall/mall_info.aspx?ID=332), used to be anchored by Caldors and Sears way back in the day. They have since added another huge Filene's add-on in the middle and turned Caldors into a Filene's Home store, although the signs only say "Filene's." So basically it's now anchored by two Filene's and a Sears, looks pretty weird driving by on the Mass Pike.
They did a bit the same at the Maine Mall. There is a Filene's and a Filene's Home store. The difference is that the mall has more anchors like JCPenney, Sears, Macy's, Best Buy and Sports Authority.
Crossgates Mall has recently lost the Lord and Taylor store in the mall. I hope everything will be okay. Crossgates is the biggest mall in the Albany area, and one of the biggest in the state.
hears a Filene's Basment i have no idea if Felene's Basment is a part of Filene's this store just opened to years ago they sell nice stuff for cheep to
i know we have this in teh Filene's section but Filene's basment is not a part of Filene's it was owned by Fedrated untill 1988 in 1991 it became its own public company then in 1999 it filed for ch11 it emerged from CH11 in 2001 as a stronger better company ive been to there stores before they sell the same stuff filenes dose but cheeper and they have alot of men's stuff as well as womans stuff unlike TJ Maxx Burlington Coat Factory and Marshels i like Filene;s Basment the best there a great chain and i want to see them last forever :bounce::bounce::bounce:

I like Filene's expensive though
recent slogan " Always something to excite (me) !"
All May Company stores use the same Slogan.
Filenes
Strawbridges
Hects
Kauffmans
etc....
all use the same slogan, commercials, etc..
May could plaster any name they want on most of their stores (Hecht's, Kaufmann's, Filene's, etc.) because they are all the same store these days. Marshall Field's and Lord & Taylor stand out, but the others are basically the same.
You'd have a tough time convincing people outside of the northeast that Kaufmann's, LS Ayers, Foley's, or Hecht's are copycats of Filene's. If anything, they all have been transformed into May, while keeping semi-regional names. Those stores as they are known today, including Filene's, are nothing like their former selves.
well if filene;s gos there will still be Filenes Basment witch once was owned my Feddrated untill 1988 and in 1991 they spun off ass there own company and in 1999 filed for ch11 and emerged in 2001
hears more of the Filenes in Danbury CT
more filenes lol
i like this store it has such a monder late 80's look this store opened some time in 1987 or 1988
I wonder why May didn't just brand all their stores "The May Co." Here's some pics of some old May Co. stores from Cleveland. All of the May Co. stores in that area became Kaufmann's during the early to mid 90's.
and one more...
Filene's at the Fox Run Mall in Newington NH. Still has the old Filene's logo.

the original filene's in the Mall of NH used to look like that!!! When the mall of NH got renovated in 1996, the Filene's moved to a more updated location and the old location got torn down and rebuilt into the mall's new wing and 2-level JCPENNY
this Filene's is in BAngor MAine.
The current one in MAnchester NH looks like this one and the one in the Auburn mall in Auburn mass looks like this.
this Filene's is in the Warwick Mall!!!
There was another filene's in warwick in the Rhode island mall and that closed in 97 and it was originally G FOX. that filene's is now Wal-mart and kohl's. and at the time of closing they were enlarging the warwick mall one.
The one in the Berkshire mall in LAnesboro looks like this one!!!
Filene's bought out G Fox in the mid 1990s.
this is a picture of the inside mall showing FIlene's in warwick mall.
I HOPE FILENE's does not go out because of the fact that MAcy's company bought it out!!! That will lead to a glut of vacancies.
THIS FILENE's is in the PRovidence place mall. THe mall opened in August 1999 (and I believe it drew people away from the Rhode island mall, warwick mall and swansea mall). the filene's is 200,000 square feet.
i heard the one in eastfield mall in springfield,ma will close and become a Target store

well if the merger gos as plaed all if not most of Filenes store will become Bloomingdales witch is a much nicer store then Filenes and its called fedtrate compay they bought the may company they own macys and bloomingdlaiels and many outher storeas
I tend to think that most of the regional May Co. stores (Filene's/Kaufmann's (who are both the same company, Filene's operates all of the Kaufmann's stores out of Boston for the past few years), Hecht's, etc..) will become Macy's. There may be a few cases where due to overlap with existing Macy's stores, they may make one of the locations Bloomingdale's. But Federated has made it clear that they want to make the Macy's brand a national department store and the purchase of May Co. will make that possible. Bloomingdale's is upscale and will only be in certain markets where Federated feels the chain will be successful.
Then there are Lord & Taylor and Marshall Fields. Personally, I think that several L&T stores will either close or end up as Bloomingdale's. I also think that they'll keep the Marshall Fields name.
Around here, most malls usually have Macy's/JCPeney/Filene's. If they close Filene's, it will leave many malls without a major anchor, that will not be good for the mall at all, including Macy's.
On the other hand, a new store could open and bring more traffic, but what store?

well if the mall already had a Macys there filenes would be rep;aced by Bloomingdales but if the mall dident have macys and it had a filenes im sure that store will become Macys
but Lord & Tayloer and Marshell fileds are not gonna go any were for now so dont worey about that

im sure since macys is in teh mall that filenes might become a bloomingdales or some outher store fersted owns
Federated basically has Macy's and Bloomingdale's and that's about it. Well...unless you consider the May brands. I would tend to think that out of all of the duplicate May/Macy's stores, more of those stores will end up closed than will end up as a Bloomie's. They are really positioning that chain as the upscale choice and just like they have already, they're not going to have Bloomingdale's stores all over the place. The demographics are going to have to add up in order for them to plop a Bloomie's in.
this filene's is in waterbury connecticut in brass center mall and 161,700 sf

I recieved a present wrapped in this box this past Christmas. Came from my mom who saves every box. There used to be a Filene's in the Crystal Mall in Waterford CT. It was a large anchor store, which, when the merger happened, the store was closed. It was sub-divided to a Christmas Tree Shops down stairs, and a Bed, Bath, & Beyond upstairs.

Did Filene's Basement went out?
Yes. They got married to the chain SYMS and later they both went bye-bye. I don't remember what year. The one in West Hartford, CT closed a long time ago however. It's been Best Buy for a long time.
Maybe we should move the Fliene's Basement thread to the closed chains forum!

Wikipedia suggests the last Filene's Basement closed December 29, 2011 - that might be relatively accurate (they say sold to Syms in 2009). There is also a website saying coming soon, so perhaps another of those names re-launched in cyberspace only.
