Aww really? We had one in Northtown plaza that closed early last year. My mom always used to force me to come to this store with her and I used to think it was so boring. For some reason they always used to play early-90's R&B in this store. Sad, sad...

WOW they didn't last that long:o

I was in one when they first opened a new store in Waterbury  BEFORE opening the  new Toys R Us store in Waterbury

I was expecting some toys but when I arrived all it was was clothes for toddlars and young kids and some toys that were a little too young for my age.

Most Kids r us' are now Office Depot.

I was not surprised Kids r us closed 1.5-2 years ago, as there was an overlap, IN MY OPINION, to BAbies r us and Kids r us, but Babies r us sells cribs, baby toys, diapers and baby supplies.

KIDs r us had closed stores before, like 5 yeras ago one in springfield mass closed and one in Bangor maine closed 11 years ago, it only lasted 2 years.

Speaking of the Kids "R" Us store in the Northtown Plaza is now Carolina Furniture , but the only things from its KRU days that remain are the rainbow light bars in the front, the red triangle above the entrance (the outside of it is now a darker shade of red than it is inside), and the restrooms signs still say boys and girls. The exterior is now tan to match the rest of the plaza and the multi colored squares outside are now the same shade of red as the triangle and the "A division of Toys "R" Us" byline is covered by the store's logo and if you look closely you can see the Kids "R" Us label scar.

I think Kids "R" Us went out of buisness in 2003, so it was started in 1983 and lasted until 2003, that 20 years of Kids "R" Us.

If Kids "R" Us was still around here's what the logo would have been like and below the "last" logo that was used

There are three Kids "R" Us stores that I know of...

* Elyria, OH - Now a "Planet Fitness" after sitting vacant for countless years. Exterior was repainted gray/purple to match the fitness center's logo colors, and the windows in the front were squared off by boards added to the window framing going to the ground.

* North Olmsted, OH - Plazas at Great Northern - IIRC, Kids "R" Us used to be where the new DSW is now.

* Parma, OH - Day Drive Plaza - vacant/abandoned, along with most of the plaza's tenants; Giant Eagle moved to a new-construction building where Circuit City and the once-upon-a-time Finast Super Store (IIRC, it was a Gold Circle prior to that - Finast SS had a very 'modern' look to it, unlike the red-awning'd Finast stores that used to be all over) used to be.

This original Gold Circle location in Parma that you are talking about. Why did it never become a Hills Department Store when Hills bought the going out of business Gold Circle Chain back in 1988?

Geez... It might have been a Hills in the interim, but I'm not sure. All I remember is that Finast was in the building next door (complete with the trademark red awning), then moved into the new building after an extensive, modernized remodel. Vix/3D Deep Discount Drug then moved into the vacated Finast, with Circuit City moving in after 3D closed (and giving the front the traditional Circuit City look). Finast eventually closed up, long before the Tops merger/rebrand, and was never reoccupied.

Also, I was *8* back in 1988, so I'm surprised my memory of the area and the progression of stores is as good as it is. ;)

Elsewhere around there, there was a Forest City that became a Handy Andy, followed by Rini-Rego Marketplace, with Giant Eagle moving in after the merger. BEST's old building is still standing next to Toys "R" Us, complete with the BEST labelscar and everything.

There was another Kids "R" Us (I think) that I could think of, it was in Cheektowaga, NY on Walden Ave. across from the Galleria Mall in that area where there was a Wegmans (later the ill-fated Ultimate Electronics, now demolished for Cabela's) and a Chase-Pitkin (now Burlington Coat Factory) next door to it. The Kids "R" Us building was demolished years ago and now Smokey Bones is in its place.

This former Kids "R" Us in Detroit became expanded space for an adjacent furniture store that opened since it's 2003 closure. The brown stripes on the left are from the Toys "R" Us that closed at the same time as KRU and is now Forman Mills.

Another former KRU, this one in Taylor, Michigan. This one opened in 1988.

I'm not sure when the Northtown Plaza Kids "R" Us opened, but all I know is that it closed in 2003 with the rest of the chain.

I think that logo was very rare to come as opposed to this one:

I been doing some research of Toys R Us locations after the bankruptcy.

I been amazed at how many locations still have the Kids R Us signage of these combo stores years after KRU went out of business.

Attached are two locations on Ohio, 1 in Cincinnati and 1 in Columbus that still had the KRU signage on it.
