Title: KFC
Post by: HoJofan206 on April 05, 2005, 12:07:13 AM
Here in Evansville we still have an original Kentucky Fried Chicken building standing.  It is sitting empty but it has the original roof (painted an ugly brown) with its cupola intact.
The old restaurants had the sign with the lighted arrow pointing towards the building with the bucket of chicken attached.  Now days, people are in such a hurry to eat we have even shortened the name to KFC, just to save time.

Kentucky Fried Chicken originated in Corbin Kentucky and are now Headquartered in Louisville Kentucky.  Good ol Mister Sanders.

I heard Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name to "KFC" back in the 70's, when people started to realize fried food was bad for you, and they didn't want the word "Fried" in their name...

I could be wrong, but I dont think Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their signage over to KFC until the 1990's.  That is when many retaurants joined the "trend" to shorten their name.  ei: Long John Silvers to LJS

Actually, Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name in 1991 because of the "fried" in the name.

We only have two KFC restaurants left in Evansville, plus one KFC/Taco Bell combo unit.  In the 1970's and 80's Evansville was home to 7 or 8 of them.

We have KFC in New Britain CT and then there's one in Rocky Hill with the classic sign spelling out the name.

I was in Louisville KY today (World headquarters of KFC) and I saw the brand new, just opened restaruant on Bardstown Road.  It is the new concept and the name "Kentucky Fried Chicken" is clearly spelled out completely on the building.
So much for the "only" using KFC logo. :hurt:

The new location in Louisiville is very different looking from any KFC building I have ever seen before.  Again, I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Louisville is the KFC headquarters city, or might this be the "future" look of new KFC stores......It looks really nice.

Has anyone saw the new KFC ad recently?

it starts basically like this:

old black guy comes along stops in front of tennage guys on mpg cell phones etc.

He says this to them " Back then in my day we never heard of  MP3s,or PSPs or KFC......"

The young group stops playing with their electronic gizmo toys and give the old guy a stare.

old guy continues ".....back then we called it Kentucky Fried Chicken."

the young group of teens shoves the KFC buckets towards him with a smile

The annoucer says something like this "Come back to the timeless delicious yet old school taste of Kentucky Fried chicken"

at one point the Bucket in a spinning closeup shot says KFC spins and changes to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

at the end of the ad the announcer says this "Only at Kentucky Fried Chicken"

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY THE FULL NAME WAS SAID AND SPELLED OUT ON TV "KENTUCKY FREID CHICKEN" NO LIE!:saint:

Yep, I saw this ad, it is real. I thought they got sued by the State of Kentucky because they were not allowed to use a state's name to represent a product or something like that. Maybe it was just a rumor.

I've heard some scary stories from our local KFC.  The latest one was in the news around here when a lady found a cocroach cooked into her chicken.  Even just being in there it is a very ghetto-ish atmosphere...  I do like the other KFC's in Worcester though, especially the KFC/Taco Bell dual's.

This is the KFC/Taco Bell Combo store in East Greenbush at the Route 9/20 and Route 4 intersection.  This store started out as a KFC and later had the Taco Bell added (so much so that from this shot you'd think it was a Taco Bell with unusual red awnings!).

KFC actually had an older store just across & down the road on Route 4 - many years ago it closed for "remodel" while the road was being orked on and never re-opened.  It's now a Mr. Subb.  This location was built about 15 +/- years later - who knows why the long break.

This location is on Kunker Road, just off Route 9 across (opposite corners) from the Latham Circle Mall in Latham.  They had a fire about 6-8 months ago and it looks like nothing has been done since.  This is an older location, and there is already a Taco-LJS down the road, so I don't know what they have in mind (if anything).

The first is the Poughkeepsie store on Main Street - the building has been redone, but was there for a bit, as seen by the older sign at the rear driveway.

Second is the Western Avenue location (below Crossgates) - another older location.

Third is the Central Ave Colonie location - also an older store.
Title: Re: KFC
Post by: BillyGr on April 19, 2006, 07:36:22 PM
The first photo is one I missed before of the Kingston location, on Ulster Ave near Route 32 - There were barrels blocking part of the driveway (you can see a bit of one at the far bottom right) - not sure why.  The Stewart's is off to the right of the shot (but the sign was in the way!).

The little photo on the top right and the big one  in the middle are both of the Cobleskill location on Route 7 - the smaller one shows it from afar (with another pesky sign for something else in the way) and the bigger one is an extreme close up of the front.

The last photo is in Oneonta - I think it was on Route 7 more in the main part of town, but am not totally sure.

The barrels are there because the restaurant had a bad kitchen fire a couple months ago. Recently, the restaurant has been gutted out, so I don't know what will happen. The closest KFC to here is Poughkeepsie.

Not that it matters to me, but the three KFC's I've been to in Bristol, Southington, and Avon, Connecticut are all owned by people of Middle Eastern Decent. Is this common elsewhere?

The aforementioned one in Bristol was orginally located on Farmington Avenue (Route 6) near an abandoned dairy. After the moved down the street this locaiton was shoe store briefly and a successful Produce Store. After the Produce Store moved becuase they needed more space this locaiton has had a few stints as small Unsuccessful Restaurants. Part of this is due to the fact the building is so small they can only fit in a few tables. Most recently the building was home to a small place called Chevy's Drive-in, but I'm not sure if it's still open.

The one in New Britain, CT was orignally located on Corbin Avenue, but burned down in the late 80s or early 90s. They built a new location on West Main Street. The Corbin Avenue location is now a carwash.

The food court at the Meriden Sqaure Mall had a KFC-Taco Bell-Arthur Treacher's Combo deals. It closed down sometime last year and as of a few months ago is still vacant.

Well, Marc, I don't see Middle Eastern people working at my KFC, but it is common for restaurants to take people from other countries and have them work there. Mexican people work at probably half the Tim Hortons' and Dunkin' Donuts. And you gotta love their popcorn chicken!!!!;);):insane::insane:

There were two old KFC's in Northern New York.  One was on Mill Street off Public Square in Downtown Watertown, the other was on Maple Street in Downtown Potsdam.  They both had this style of building.  The Watertown building was torn down for a parking lot.  The Potsdam building became a local restaurant called "The Chicken Place" before going out of business and the building was torn down to make room for a convenience store.

You know it surprises me that they haven't either closed or renovated my local KFC into a KFC/Taco Bell. NOBODY ever goes there, the service is terrible, and the store is very dirty and not a desirable place to eat at, although the food is good. Everybody goes to the McDonald's across the street, and I think I once heard the workers inside commenting on it. I would love for it to become a KFC/Taco Bell and hire some more employees, because I bet that if they added a TB they would get way more than 1 customer a day and a lot of people would actually go there.

Thinking back on the day PETA held its protest at the KFC, my friend who was program director of the local radio station interviewed someone from PETA on his show and they told him PETA's ultimate goal was for everyone in the world to become vegetarians. As for the PETA protest itself that was being held because the chickens raised by KFC were supposedly being abused.

I'm against PETA. I mean who on earth would brainwash people into thinking we could all be vegetarians?! I think that's ludicrous from a meat connoisseur's standpoint. We should all be free to choose what we eat, and don't let these organizations tell you otherwise.

I agree with you 100%. And as for them protesting because the animals were abused? Um, I don't really care. As long as they taste good in the final product I don't really care if they were abused. It's not like household domesticated pets that were being abused, which is sad and needs to stop.

As far as the whole PETA thing goes, I can see why they give KFC a hard time. They have always been ranked the very worst by PETA in terms of animal rights. Their biggest complaint is how horrible the short lived chicken's life is before they become KFC product. I'm not a vegan, but I admit it is a little messed up.

They are usually trapped in a small crowded cage, fed genetically altered stuff to make them become really plump and fat at a really young age. Then put on an assembly line of death. It's a grim story, but KFC is good I have to admit.

Sure, pro-meat people make a good argument. But it's the means in which we have come to in the treatment of the animals that PETA people dislike the most, not just the fact that we are eating animals.

Title: Re: KFC
Post by: videogamer75 on February 24, 2009, 03:24:15 PM
I like and respect animals and I agree that it is wrong and messed up when they are abused the way KFC does. There are more humane ways of doing what they do, for example the controlled air method that Burger King uses, which doesn't cause actual pain to the chickens. However, at the same token, I think it's wrong that PETA is trying to dictate what we all eat. They were never given the right to make decisions for us, they don't have any power over us. And besides that, they have killed thousands of dogs and cats for unknown reasons, there are several websites that can prove this. They are pretty much an all-around fascist and hypocritical organization who even advocates arson. I will probably continue to eat meat. Besides, there will always be a good amount of animals on Earth - they should just take solace in that fact.

I remember as a kid I thought the giant bucket sign was where they kept all the chicken pieces and when somebody placed an order the employee would pull a lever and the chicken pieces dropped into the little bucket all cooked and ready to eat. Also as for the whole rumor about them changing their name to de-emphasize the whole fried thing or because they can't call what they serve chicken anymore because of genetic experiments both are false. I have seen Kentucky Fried Chicken Places with the name fully spelled out as part of the signage. They call themselves KFC for the same reason Pizza Hut are calling themselves "The Hut" and Radio Shack are calling themselves "The Shack" is because it's supposedly easier to remember not because of health concerns or Frankencreatures.

The Kenny King's restaurants in Ohio served Kentucky Fried Chicken dinners from the beginning until they folded in the mid-1990s.

This KFC was converted to an Italian restaurant.

I wonder if their spaghetti sauce is "Finger-Lickin' Good"...

How is it  on the inside? The one in Southington is dirty, old, and run down on the inside. Last October the urinal in the men's room broke. 3 weeks later it was still broken. 2 weeks after that it was removed and never was replaced.

I don't know, it's been at least 2 years since I was last inside. Maybe I'll come back tonight.

The one in Southington, CT is finally getting remodeled. I wonder if they're going to taking out the buffet. Don't expect any photos from me when they're done. I was banned from there after I sent a complaint email on KFC.COM about how nasty and rude their manager (owner?) is to me all the time when I used to go there regularly.

The finished the remodel in Southington. While I haven't been in there, I know they took out the buffet because they covered up the All-You-Can-Eat part of their sign.

Now through the end of the year KFC will be serving Chicken and Waffles. First heard a DJ talking about it on Kool Radio (96.1/990 in Southington) yesterday. Today I saw an ad for it on CMT during a rerun of the sitcom Reba on CMT.

In Imlay City, Michigan, where I used to work for Ames, there is a place called
Maryland Fried Chicken.

It is still there, and apparently is part of a small chain.

Any place named after a state which is south of the Mason-Dixon Line
HAS to have good fried chicken, doesn't it?   ???

There was one in Forestville (Bristol), Connecticut in the 70s. It was in the Pine Plaza, which was ripped down and rebuilt in 98. There was also one in New Britain in the Stanley Plaza on Slater Road. The plaza has since been razed. Separate owners.

It looks like aside from the one store in Michigan the rest of them are all in the South.
Georgia and Florida primarily.

Ironically enough, to those people Maryland is in the North.

Here's how this Kentucky Fried Checken in Willimantic, CT looks like in between those 4 months!

First Pic: 4 months earlier -- 1997-era Red, White & Blue crown building

Second Pic: Now -- remodeled, sounds more Kentuckier, eh?
