Most of the Pizza Huts in my area and counties around were the old "hut" shaped red roofed ones...but the 2004 Hurricane season took care of that...most of them are just metal and wood frames now, I think there are plans to convert at least one into a new "Italian villa" format or something...

ALL our local pizza huts are the old hut-shaped red ones..and all still have the old logo too!!

Actually, Jag, the one in Hamburg(which I believe you have pictured above) is the only Buffalo area one to have the new logo.

Title: Re: Pizza Hut
Post by: Jag67 on May 31, 2005, 07:17:00 PM
yep, that's what all our pizza huts look like lol...I wonder when that design was first used...It looks kinda 60's to me. I lke the old logo too. It actually makes me hungry!! Hard to believe it's from 1969..Our old library looks EXACTLY like a pizza hut..Right down to the roof and windows. Heck, it could've BEEN a pizza hut it's so similar!! In fact, a while ago, as a joke, somebody wrote "Pizza hut" on the roof. Of course, it eventually wore down to "pizz-". I'll post a pic when we're down there again..

Luckilly, Pizza Hut's been VERY slow in replacing signs, so I think the oldlogo will be around for quite a while.

Since the hurricane damage, our Pizza Hut signs were wittled down to random letters until they were eventually torn down altogether. Some examples: "izza U" and "Pizza Hu".

A Pizza Hut in Bangor ME.  I was not taking a picture of it but it's there.  A recent, large, brick restaurant that replaced a very old small one nearby.

Lol thats funny did the news take pics of the Pizza Hut damage after the hurricane?

I'm interested in seeing the pics!

I've made powerpoint representations of what the damage would look like

Sadly, not that I know of :( I just drove past the "Pizza Hu" today--however, "izza u" is just a wood and metal frame now :(

We only had one of the "classic" Pizza Huts here, they expanded in this area by buying up Straw Hat Pizza, so all the pizza Huts here looked like Straw Hats instead of the traditional Pizza Huts! The one Pizza Hut styled building is still there, but it's one of those tacky payday loan things.

That's in an old Winchell's Donuts location. Pizza Hut took over a lot of those when Winchell's closed over half their locations. Pizza Hut just replaces the plastic part of the sign that said "Winchell's" Here is a sample Winchell's sign:

Plus I never thought Olive Garden and Pizza Hut were owned by the same company!

That's because they aren't - Olive Garden (along with Red Lobster, Smokey Bones and Bahama Breeze) are under Darden Restaurants.

Pizza Hut (and KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silvers) are a separate company (not sure what the current name is - used to be a part of PepsiCo a number of years back) - this is why many of these are co-located in various combintions.

On a trip to a town about 30 miles away from where I live, I spotted an old Pizza Hut that had  been destroyed by the hurricanes being made over into an "Italian Villa" style format. That's what I heard they were planning to do to the one in my town...in the meantime, a Pizza Hut storefront only open to deliver orders (not a sit-in location) opened in a new strip plaza.

The restaurant has been closed for about a month now, I guess it doesn't matter about the graffiti since the whole thing will be done up into some monstrosity anyway.

There was one in Newington in Ames plaza. For the new Price Chopper, they knocked the Pizza Hut down in the front of the plaza to raise visibility. They just vanished however, and never re-opened.

Pizza Hut's sudden spate of changes in recent years after staying remarkably consistent for so many years is disturbing.  Their classic hut-style restaurants always had table service; it was a good place to go for salad, pizza, beer, and good times.  The new more or less self service style are like going to Burger King.  Paper plates and cups, plastic flatware, self-serve drinks...really very tacky considering the price point of the pizzas and other menu items.  Ordering at a counter isn't always terrible; many Godfather's are this way.  But, the decision to use disposable ware and to delete beer in many locations (or go to bottles only) was not for the best in my opinion.  They still have a pretty good product though when all is going well.

I don't know when it happened, but the Pizza Hut on Woodbury ave in Portsmouth NH is closed.  The old restaurant was in a dark spot because of all the big trees around it.  That leaves only one restaurant far south, on Lafayette road.

And here is the former Pizza Hut in Hampton NH.  It has been vacant a few years and is now a "Fast eddie's"

ALOT OF PIZZA HUTS HAVE BEEN CLOSING., FAST EDDIE's in HAmpton was Pizza Hut. WHY THE ONE IN WOODBURY AVe, NOW THERE IS NO MAJOR PIZZA PLACE LEFTO N WOODBURY AVE!!! THEY closed the one in Portsmouth on LAfayette Rd near the Southgate plaza years ago, that became 99 restuarant, and Pizza Hut opened down the road from southgate plaza few years later.

WHAT IS WITH PIZZA HUT!!!!!!! I Saw one vacant in Marlboro Mass last year.

Not many Pizza huts left in Boston area. I heard the one in BAngor near the mall is getting torn down to be rebuilt into a more updated one. The pizza HUt looked OLD!

Many Pizza Huts in my area (Northwest Florida) have closed recentlly.  The conversion to the more fast-food like format with limited service does not seem to have been a rousing success.  Several formerly flourishing locations have been shuttered shortly after the conversions.  The older locations that still offer full service with actual dishes and silverware, etc. seem to do a lot of business.  For the price point on the menu (if one hasn't any coupons), one really expects more than the limited service concept provides.

The first shot is the Pizza Hut on Route 2 between Latham & Watervliet - it is in the plaza with the (former) Grand Union that is now a church - it sits separately in the corner and is the only business still operating besides the church.

The 2nd is the Catskill location on Rt 9W - next to the McDonalds (there is a street between used to access both places) - you can see where the old logo used to be on the building underneath the current one - they also replaced the sign by the road.

A former Pizza Hut in Quebec City re opened as a real estate office !  At least 4 Pizza Hut opened in the 90's in the city and nearby in Levis.  They all closed after only a few years.  (the restaurants were new buildings) They recently made a comeback with a KFC/Pizza Hut combo.

First is the Kingston location on Ulster Ave next to the former Ponderosa-turned-library.  Older signage on this one.

2nd is the Bennington (VT) location - newer sign on the building and a different "laying-down" sign by the road (usually they are a rectangle standing on the short side).

3rd is the Western Ave location above Crossgates.  Again, this is the area that tends to have mini-signs (as this one does, plus the brown roof and no roof signage).

4th is the delivery store in Pittsfield (MA) on Rt 7/20 (or maybe South 7 East? as seen in the inset - this sign is about 100 ft to the left  of the picture) - there aren't many of these in this area (maybe 2 others).

Last is the Pittsfield (MA) location at the intersection of Route 8 & 9 - has unusual older lettering.

I would have shown a shot of the former Pizza Hut in North Adams, but the building is gone!  Sorry.

The first shot is the Cobleskill location - it is just off Route 7 and sits in the corner of the Price Chopper/former Jamesway plaza.

The 2nd is the Coopperstown location - it is in the P&C plaza, next to McDonalds.

The 3rd is the Oneonta location, on Route 7 between the Oneonta Plaza and the former Pyramid Mall.

All pretty standard buildings with the newly updated signs (though that Cobleskill one seems to be kind of tiny!).

wow. are these still around? I remember in the 80's and 90's they were all over the place then overnight they all vanished. I liked the all you can eat pizza buffets they used to do.

I still remember the old commerical jingle "Let yourself go to Pizza Hut"

The Pizza Huts in Bristol and Southington, Connecticut closed down in 1994 or 1995.  A lot closed down around this time and I believe it had to do with the fact that Pepsi was selling the company.

The one in Southington in Ames Plaza was torn down quickly and an Outback Steak House was built in it's place.

The one in Bristol remained vacant until last fall when they began renovating it into a bank. The bank opened around March of this year and you can't even tell it was ever a pizza hut. They made the building look like a victorian type house. Next time I go to downtown Bristol I'll try to get pics.

Bristol now only has a Delivery Pizza Hut which is next to Blockbuster.

Southington has a Pizza Hut Express which is inside the Taco Bell. It's funny i worked at the Shaw's across the street from that Taco Bell for almost 2 years and I can't remember if Pizza Hut Express is even on the Taco Bell sign. I don't think it is.

The last time I was at Pizza Hut was in August 2001 on Route 5 in Brattleboro, Vermont.

You've got all the bases covered. There used to be one in downtown New Britain (across from that scary former Finast plaza). I used to go to the Southington one all the time, was said when they closed it. I also remember that one on North Main Street in Bristol - didn't know it was vacant for years before it finally closed. Until a little while ago, N.Main was almost too scary to visit - that's before they revitalized it.

Marc, there's a vacant Pizza Hut located right off I-84 East near Manchester (it might be in East Hartford). If you take the diamond lane you can see it right off the highway.

Last time I ate at Pizza Hut was actually a half a year ago in Keene, New Hampshire where they're building another, newer one right next to the old one (near Keene Cinemas/Staples plaza).

There are many empty Pizza Huts in my part of PA...some of them have been empty for about 10 years now! These are all the traditional ones, the carryout only stores seem to still be doing good business. I guess the whole "Pizza Hut" thing is kinda an old model of business, as most people don't eat pizza in a restaurant. I guess these kind of stores were losing major $$ by having a dining room

Wingstreet is a fancy word they created that means: "we also have buffalo wings on the menu ..."  Livraison is french for delivery (the restaurant is in Quebec, Canada).

Pizza Hut; New London, CT. This store had an unusually small sign on the building side. Standing Pizza Hut locations are becoming rare in Connecticut. I've also noticed many stores are phasing out or oddly modernizing the signature red roof.

I'm mad at myself for not photographing one of our Pizza Huts before it got demolished. It's where my boyfriend & I met, so it has sentimental value for us. But it's all gone now. :( They're putting up a Popeye's in its place, apparently, but the frame of the building has been sitting there untouched for months now. We do have one of the old lamps that used to hang above the tables, and some warming bags for the takeout pizza. We had the crazy clock but we gave it away. I was in Florida during the closing festivities, so I missed out on everything. They got notice the day after Christmas 2005 that it was closing that week.

It's also a Italian Bistro  place... I haven't gone to Pizza Hut, well to eat inside in a very, very long time. I don't get there pizza very often - the local places are amazing.

It's been there for a while, and I heard it was a huge monster draw, but now it is quiet as heck. A texas road house opened up right next to Pizza Hut, so I think they may get busy again -- to absorb all of the customers who don't want to wait for a seat at Texas Road House.

You know, it seems this whole "Pasta Hut" thing was viral advertising on their part.  The first commercial I saw for their pasta showed them demolishing a Pizza Hut and building a "Pasta Hut."  After that they also released another one showing a pasta hut replacing a pizza hut and so on... leading at least me to believe they might be starting a new chain.  Then all of a sudden it was like they pulled the stops and now have some pretty clear commercials as to the fact they are only serving cheap ready made pasta.

When I worked at Papa Gino's we used to do school lunches about twice a month.  Absolutely crazy if you're the person making the pizza.  We needed to make about 120 pizzas in an hour, cut the slices nearly perfectly, and time 3 deliveries just right.  All during the normal lunch rush!

Pizza Hut, KFC, Long JohnSilvers and A&W are part of Tricon  GLobal Restaurants wich is now known as Yum! Brands.

Taco Bell, A&W, Pizza Hut, KFC, and Long John Silver's are part of the YUM! Brands family.

These are all the closed ones I know:
Holmes, PA
Aston, PA (red roof location moved, torn down)
Lansdowne, PA (not dine-in)
Upper Darby, PA
King of Prussia, PA
Willow Grove, PA
West Chester, PA
West Chester, PA (not dine-in)
Kennett Square, PA
Phoenixville, PA
Coatesville, PA
Bensalem, PA
Berwick, PA
Ocean City, NJ
Wilmington, DE (red roof building destroyed)
Chestertown, MD (red roof building moved)
Painted Post, NY
FM 1960, Houston, TX
Tomball, TX (red roof building destroyed)

BJ's, Wal-Mart, Wawa, and AMF all used to have Pizza Hut Express, and closed them. Bradlees had them, as well as Discovery Zone. Also, there used to be a combination KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut Express near me, which discontinued the Pizza Hut products. Ditto for a KFC/Pizza Hut.

There actually used to be two Pizza Hut red roof locations in Bensalem, PA that closed.  The first was on Street Road, between Hulmeville Road and Bristol Pike.

The second was on Lincoln Highway, across from the recently closed Steak & Ale.  I used to work at the Pizza Hut on Lincoln Highway from 1993 to 1996.  It was called Trevose Pizza Hut.  This location closed in early 1997.  It, and the Sohio/BP/Mobil gas station that was next door were demolished and replaced by a Wawa Food Market and Gas Station.:yup:

THANKS FOR THE INFO!!! 1997... probably when the one in Holmes, across from MacDade Mall closed. And a SOHIO station? The red roof ones were built from 1968 to 1973 I think.

Former Bristol, CT Pizza Hut corner of Route 6 and North Main. Pizza Hut closed when they did their big round of closings in the 90s. Remodeled into Sovereign Bank in 06. Nice job you can't even tell it was a Pizza Hut.  The bank relocated here from the near by Shaw's Supermarket. This is the back side.

And unfortunately they're closed again until further notice because some idiot drove their car through the building this morning. The woman claims she was cut-off. Bull.

Seriously?!! How do you get cut off and lose control to drive into a Pizza Hut building so bad that now it has to remain closed until it can be fixed?
Where's the surveilance camera on this one, it's got to be priceless!!

That's what I'd like to know. From the video of the scene it doesn't look like the building is that close to Silver Lane. She would've had to have gone through the parking lot and over a snow-covered curb to go through the building. The owner of the restaurant said business had just started coming back in the 8 months he's been reopened. And now this. Hopefully it can be fix. The town said the building is Unsafe for occupancy.

Well, today was my OFFICIAL first day of work. I was actually making pizzas today. It was great. I've learned some of the secrets, which I am not telling anyone, so don't ask. But I love it. It's in a busy shopping center, naturally, Walmart and Lowe's are the 2 big stores. Next to us is Arbys stand-alone, GameStop, Payless, in their own section with I THINK a hairdresser, Burger King, and a bunch of other smaller stores. We are right on the highway with Walmart and Lowe's on the other side of the parking lot. Oh, we're also right at a stoplight haha so we are seen by all kinds of traffic, so we do good business. I'm enjoying it so far. And my kids love that they got dinner tonight, I get a free meal myself, and a 20% discount on stuff I pay for, outside of the specials. No biggie, we got a 10 dollar any way you want it, so I don't have to break my wallet. I love Pizza Hut................

Hello, again, from your favorite pizza wh0re...I feel like that sometimes. I got roped into staying an extra 2 hours today, and I already work 35 hours a week...Gotta love when young kids work there and they wanna party instead of work. And by party, you all know what I mean. I'm NOT spelling it out, but it is something most people would get FIRED for. Idiots. Anyway, the boss-lady wants to have me become a key carrier, so that I can show up at 8am by myself instead of with someone, so I'd be opening. We'll see if THAT ever happens. I go back to school in August, so if that's what she wants, she better realize that it would only be 4 mornings a week. I prefer mornings, Monday-Friday we have lunch buffet, and on Wednesdays we have a dinner buffet. I hate working with slow-a** people. I love working alone, I get done so much faster than if I have to depend on them to help...oh and I got my first "YUM" sticker...it's like a big compliment saying I'm always there, I do my job and I do it fast, and I put the customers first. Which I do... :) Oh well, just letting you all know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I DO check-in with facebook at least once a day, sometimes more if I get a break at work. Miss you all, hope you are all having a wonderful summer so far for those that are already out of classes, or who may be taking vacations and such....not me. I work. lol Enjoy your week, everyone.

My hours got cut down to 26. She just hired more new people that it seems I'm the one training. Ugh. I've only been there 2 months and I'm already getting crapped on. As for the party question, they're smoking things other than cigarettes on their breaks. I wish they would get rid of them already and let us straights do the jobs that they seem to lack the capabilities of doing. But, I did get Memorial Day off, so I'll be taking my children to Idlewild Park for opening day. I can't wait for that :) I got another YUM sticker for diving into the dough as soon as I punched in and washed up. Basically saying I don't just stand around like everyone else. I punch in, wash up, do what I'm paid to do, and that's it. I don't run out the back door when no one is looking and leave everyone else with the work. I also have ceased taking breaks because every time I come back I have to make up for what they don't do. When raises come around again, my butt better be at the top of the list. I hope everyone is having a good summer so far.

Yeah, I'm still around. Spending more time on facebook than on the boards. Still working at Pizza Hut, still making up for the lazy people. Maybe they'll realize that I'm getting 26-35 hours a week because I do the work and half of them are getting 4 hours a week because they do nothing...No raise just yet, but I'm not sure how often they come up anyway...I've moved up to running register along with cooking, phones, prep. I love my 8-3 shift because for the first 3 hours I don't have to talk to anyone. I can do my work and that's that. Sometimes I get a wrench in my gears like on Tuesday I worked 12:30-5. That's not a GP shift, that's a loser idiot that does nothing shift...but it's ok, I still busted my rear, got ALL my stuff done, while the others stood around looking stupid like usual. I'm used to it now. 4 months+ and still going strong. School starts on the 20th, so I'll be around even less on here. I'm sorry about that, but I still read the posts even if I don't respond. Plus, some of you have me on facebook, so it's all gravy, baby. Oh, I'm going to Ireland next June, will try to get pics of some Irish stores if I find them between the pubs :) lol Adios for now, my friends. Much love to all.

A Delivery and Take Out Pizza Hut opened in Southington at 360 Queen Street late last year, taking 1/4 of the former Hollywood Video. Most recently Southington only had a Pizza Hut Express with the Taco Bell. They took that out when they remodeled Taco Bell. And years ago a Pizza Hut stood where Outback Steakhouse now stands in what was Ames Plaza.

As of August 2011 I walked out of Pizza Hut and didn't look back. Got tired of the bull crap going on and went straight to another shop that is quaint, local, and with wonderful people. Got interviewed over the phone 5 days later and was hired on the spot. Been there ever since. I love it. The people are great, with exception of one, and that's not even that bad since I work one day a week with this person. I deliver as well as cook, and some weeks make a bunch of money. Ireland never happened, went to Jersey instead. Going to Jersey next week, too. Graduated college in December, in the process of finding a good hospital to work at and probably move if the money is good. Those are my latest updates...lol

It is; too bad it didn't make it. It's close to the rotary, but far enough away from the hub of retail activity on Western Avenue that it apparently didn't do enough business. Other Capital Pizza Huts-owned Bistro locations in South Portland and Auburn remain open.

That sucks, that was the last "classic" Pizza Hut anywhere in my area. The article mentions the success of the current Keene location, I miss it being in the old building down the road though. I can still remember the last time me and my friends ate there nearly 10 years ago and we shredded our tire on a pothole coming out of the plaza, and our friend had to flash a guy to get him to pull over and replace the tire!

I'm surprised Capital Pizza Huts didn't downsize to a "Delco Lite" version in Brattleboro; that's what they did on Forest Avenue in Portland. Maybe they felt delivery wasn't viable in a small town like Brat.

Former Pizza Hut Italian Bistro in Augusta, ME
(http://www.loopnet.com/xnet/mainsite/HttpHandlers/attachment/ServeAttachment.ashx?FileGuid=49B1C135-471D-48A6-A732-2D14DA077561&Extension=jpg&Width=631&Height=421&PadImage=False&DisableVisualWatermark=&ClipImage=False&ExactDim=False)

There was once an Italian Bistro Pizza Hut around where I live. It was a family owned location, too that was separate from the rest of the Pizza Hut Chain. However, when I decided to go there for the first time, I noticed that it had changed hands when my friend who was driving pulled into the parking lot. Out of nowhere when I looked at the sign it said, "Wing Street Pizza Hut." That really frustrated me. Especially since it was the only Italian Bistro Pizza Hut in my area. I had my heart and mind set on going there and it had changed over to a Wing Street Pizza Hut location. Not quite sure how to find another Italian Bistro Pizza Hut to go to and dine at for the first time now.

I know what you mean GothicPrincess. I used to be a very big Pizza Hut person, but here in the last year, I feel like Pizza Hut is going downhill. Whenever I order a pizza, there is hardly any pizza sauce on the pizza to flavor it. But at the same time, they do it with their wings as well. I order wings. Hardly any sauce. That is why I am really into my local Pizza place called Zepp's Pizza. It is their only location and I love their quality. I also have their phone # number in my cell phone. I also like Donato's Pizza and Fox's Pizza Den. Other than that, those are three favorite pizza places.

So a local pizzeria is moving in? Could it be one owned by the former Pizza Hut franchise owners at the site? This is similar to what happened with some IHOP closures in Georgia. Former IHOP locations reopened as diners called "Flap Jack".

Could be, or it could be something other than pizza (several here have been reopened as other types of restaurants, one fairly recent closure reopened within a couple months(ish)).
The first post didn't really say, just opening soon under another name, but not what they were offering.

So that Pizza Hut has now closed.

I'm way behind the curve on this, but it bears mentioning. Last year one of the largest Pizza Hut franchise owners in the system went bankrupt; the number of open restaurants in their territory had steadily fallen in the past few years. I remember them being based in Tennessee for a number of years but they relocated their corporate HQ to Kansas at some point.
http://www.kansas.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/carrie-rengers/article129010034.html

A number of their units were sold to GC Pizza Hut of Mt. Kisco, NY, including the Laconia, NH PH which itself closed last October

GC Pizza Hut, which took over a number of units from the bankrupt Capital Pizza Huts last year, is the franchisee behind the mass closure in CNY. The photo below is of their circa 1974 PH in DeWitt, NY, which is the oldest of the units that closed. As you can see from the peeling roof paint, this one has been neglected for quite some time. Click on the photo for more info on the story.

Connecticut's last surviving Pizza Hut in East Hartford, CT (along Silver Lane) with dine-in service closed in December 2017.

That location was most notable for a fire that occured back in February 2002. First vacant for seven years following the fire, it reopened as Pizza Hut in 2009 by adding new signs, new paint and such though keeping the 70's mansard roof building in place.

Still looks the same today!

The sit-down Pizza Hut in Bridgeville, PA closed last year and was quickly torn down and replaced with a Bank of America branch office.  Pizza Hut then opened a take-out only location in a nearby shopping plaza.  Sit-down locations still exist on Poplar St. in Green Tree, and along PA Route 51 near the Brentwood Towne Center in Brentwood and in West Mifflin in the shadow of the closed Century III Mall.
