Herbert Gilman, was co-founder and former president of Ames. He died in July 1990 after a lengthy struggle with cancer. He was a big opponent to the Zayre deal.
Well got this artical of google
Dorothy Becker Bennett, 82, of Greenwich, co-founder of Caldor, Inc., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday (May 2, 2008), after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Disease.
Carl Benett is still alive
I was actually emailing back and forth with the wife of one of the Gilman brothers. Unfortunately she stopped communicating a year or so back, I hope everything is ok.
The only Christmas Bonus I ever received was in 1988, the last year Herb Gilman was
in charge of the company. His successor canceled the policy the following year.
Ames became noticeably much more corporate once he stepped down.
