THERE IS AN AMES IN BELMONT NH WHERE AMES WAS. IT IS A CLOTHING STORE.
In the Hudson, NY Ames site also (at least part of the store) - also a quite large Yankee $1 store and still a bit of space left over.
I found a little info about Peebles on their site.

I live near Brat and will have to visit the new store when they open.

peebles in laconia / belmont nh in the old ames.
We're getting a new Peebles in Ogdensburg, NY. The store's in the old Kinney Drugs store at the Seaway Shopping Center. I got an E-mail from a company rep who says the store will open in November. I'm looking forward to it and can send pics of the construction if anyone is interested.
This one should be re-titled Peebles.
the peebles near me is tiny and quite boring its pretty old looking on the inside but the outside looks nice

Omg--I have not seen a Peebles store since we last visited MD in the late 1980's which was also the last time I was in a Caldor. I had no idea they were still even in business! From the pictures, it looks as though they have spruced things up a bit.

From what I saw on google maps their are 8 locations still left. The peebles in that picture has since been closed and the mall it was attached to was demolished.
Stage stores, the parent company of Peebles (among others) has acquired the bankrupt midwest chain Gordman's. According to Wikipedia, the current Gordman model is to compete with stores like Burlington, TJ Maxx, Ross, etc. After converting some existing stores to Gordmans they liked what they saw so many more are getting ready to make the transition. Locally for me, the Milford & Seaford, DE Peebles are closing, to be re-opened under the new marque. Their website lists 17 others opening in September.
Stage Stores is going all-in on the Gordmans off-price model and converting the rest of their stores to the format as leases permit

Im not sure if im understanding this.... They are converting all Stage owned stores to the Gordmans format or turning all Stage stores to Gordmans? stores?

My understanding is that they're converting all their banners to the Gordmans off-price format.
That's how I read it, that they'll eventually all be Gordman's. I found it interesting that the cost to switch over a store was pegged at around $40k, which sounds awful cheap. If that number is true, I can't blame them. My wife had gotten away from shopping at Peebles as she felt their products skewed too "senior". After being revamped a couple years ago her opinion has changed to "either too young or too old!"
We vacationed in southwest Texas recently & noted an old Stage store in Alpine & a Bealls in Presidio; small, older downtown stores in towns that are truly in the middle of nowhere. I have to wonder if they'll make the transition or just go away.
Peebles has been running upbeat ads on the radio promoting their "last Christmas sale ever!" We stopped in one this weekend and I can't argue with their method. The parking lot was packed, "store closing" signs out in force, the store has been "closing" for months now but inside it honestly doesn't look any different than the day before this was announced. Fully stocked, deep discounts, and busy. There was no word on when they actual changeover was coming.
They did finally close or rename all the stores to Gordmans - ours was open for maybe a month before the pandemic caused closings in March 2020.
At some point during that time, the company chose to go through bankruptcy and close all their stores completely, so I think ours had a longer time as Gordmans doing a going out of business sale than they did for their grand opening sale!
