Title: Does anyone remember Ames cola?
Post by: darkmoon9 on September 16, 2006, 11:21:11 PM
Does anyone remember Ames cola?  I think they came out with it somewhere between 1991 and 1993.  It was a big flop and don't last long.  In fact we dumped alot of it drown the drains at the DC.  At the time Ames was going to start a line of snack food too.  Also shortly before the closing the DC started to get freezers, we were told that they were going to start to sell food at the store like Wal-Mart does.  I think they had a deal with Tombstone pizza to sell their products in the stores.  Maybe someone that was in HQ could offer more info on this?

I don't remember it.  But I know that one of the vendors who got EXTREMELY upset about how Ames handled the first bankruptcy was PepsiCo.  I remember our first hint at store level that something was seriously wrong was when the Pepsi driver refused to make his deliveries unless we paid him in cash.

This sounds like Ames was trying to insert a private label product to compensate for their difficulty in procuring Pepsi products.
