They are their own company...not owned by May or anything. Most of their stores are in the south.

I guess they are a chain in the Southern USA. I saw one the other day in Winchester, VA off of I-81 at the Apple Blossom Mall.

Didn't think they were too nice, and the Winchester area...is quite interesting. Very odd there isn't one closer to me, but then again we have quite a few department stores that are more upscale, and more Macy's than I can count! I live in the DC area, and this is about 60 miles away.

This was the nicest part of the mall. Anyone like them?

The Southern institution is the largest remaining family-owned department store chain with roots reaching back to the 19th century

Belk's was an interesting company. When I was at a boarding school, I used to shop at Belk-Lindsey in Florida..

Belk is headquartered in Charlotte NC with 293 stores. They're mostly located in the South.

I moved to Charlotte back in August of 2018 and they're located in every mall down here. They're compared to Macys, but I like them better than Macys, good selection and good sales.

SouthPark Mall, which is located in Charlotte is its largest store with 4 floors and 336,414 square feet. I also believe their corporate office is located there as well. I live 15 minutes away from this mall and go frequent to it.

They owned the Leggett chain which had been important at one time; they were closed locally (Delmarva peninsula) in the 90's (early 90's if I recall) and some of the locations were replaced by Peebles which were very similar. There were rumors a few years back that Belk might move back into the area but it's never happened. Vacancies are there thanks to Sears, JCP and now Macy's, but I don't know how well they'd actually perform.
