That was the first thought I had when read the story on the "DEAD AND DYING RETAIL" Facebook Page yesterday, but it says the guy has worked for Sears for 13 years. So he was 68 when he started at Sears. Maybe he has been doing the LP job since he was 68.

The noose continues to tighten around Sears as more vendors pull out, citing a deteriorating market for insuring payment for shipments to the troubled retailer. Key vendors like LG, who supplies appliances to Sears, are in a position to demand better payment terms, but that only exacerbates Sears' cash flow problems.

I was in charge of Loss Prevention at Hills.  I would not have hired an 81-year old guy for that role.
Probably would not have hired a 68-year old.  Or a 92 lb. woman.   It's a safety issue.

I think it will happen very soon...

There's no hope.  I visited 2 closing locations recently and one of the oldest full-line store still open and I can't understand why this company is still in business.  Some of these stores were so old and tired... and yet some of these are located right by vacant Target stores that are nearly brand new and modern!

Sears is bringing back the Wishbook Catalog. It will be in print, online, and on their app

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/25/sears-is-bringing-back-its-iconic-holiday-catalog.html

Brammy's note: It's much smaller than the catalog of the olden days. I think the last time I looked at a Sears catalog was in the early 90s for a school assignment. The assignment was "What would you buy if you had $1 Million."

Sears and Kmart have seemed to resort to having frequent "blowout" sales where everything is on sale which looks like a GOB sale. If the signage is bad enough, the stores look picked over and there are plenty of empty spaces. This looks like a lazy marketing tool for the company.

Retail Fan+ (Justin Hill)

It could be the final nails in the coffins for the former retail giants.

BillyGr

One has to suspect that at least some of the cuts can be due to the continual closings over the past several years?  That being, no need to advertise (or to do so much less) in an area that once contained many Kmart and Sears stores but now has very few (if any) remaining of either.

TheFugitive

Your theory is plausible.  It makes no sense to blast advertising into areas
where you no longer have a store.

TheFugitive

I just ordered a 12V tire inflator (the arctic blast is playing havoc with the tire pressure
sensors on my car) and a pair of Wrangler jeans from Sears.

Using my points and "freecash" the total came to thirty-one bucks with free shipping.

That's insane!  I don't see how they stay in business this way.

They might as well be dead. My Mom and her friend went to the Meriden Square Mall  in Meriden, CT last Wednesday the 20th. - Four shopping days til XMAS. Boscov's was packed. My Mom's friend couldn't find what she was looking for, so they tried Sears. Besides my Mom and her friend there were maybe 4 other people in the store and Hispanic Music playing over the intercom. Sears didn't have what she was looking for either. So they went to Macy's. Macy's like Boscov's was packed. She found what she was looking for, but it was more than what she wanted to pay. Bottom line - Boscov's and Macy's (at least at this mall) Health. Sears - Dead.

Not quite. Sears in WH was announced to close in mid-November 2016 and Kmart in Cromwell was announced in early January, 2017. Sears closed a month and a half before Kmart. A year later almost and the new complex in Corbins Corner is coming along nicely.
