I've searched almost everywhere to find some information about the D&K Stores chain. From what I've heard about it was like those dollar stores and there was one in the Northtown Plaza in Amherst, NY.

This store in Ocean Grove, NJ (right on the ocean, and just over the border from Asbury Park) which is only open seasonally is, as far as anyone knows, the only remnant of the D&K (also called DE Jones in some areas, including NJ, which is likely why they still use Jones in their name) chain.

This one was closed for a couple seasons after Hurricane Sandy, and may (or may not) look like it used to after being rebuilt.

If you page back into 2011 and 2010 postings (which isn't that far due to the missing timespan) you can see some photos of what the store looked like.  To me, that's what they always looked like - tables with merchandise piled on them.  A variety of prices, nothing marked, and the cashiers always managed to know the price of just about everything you bought, which was pretty good compared to most retail where they don't know anything if the scanner doesn't work :)

And if you go back to June 9, 2010 there is a picture of a location in Cheektowaga (not quite where you mention, but close) with a banner that reads Formerly D&K Stores!

I believe in history, the chain was officially sold to Dollar Tree and most of the stores converted to that name.

I went to the Asbury Park location before Hurricane Sandy, didn't strike me as anything special.

I know Of At lest 2 former locations that were in Erie Pa and Jamestown New York.

I believe they had about 18-23 stores when they closed in 2005 I think.
