It looks more like a logo for a grocery store.

FYI, if anyone is curious, the Brewer, ME location is now closed and has been so for over a year, I believe. Last I saw the property, it was for sale. I used to go by there every day on my commute to work, but since I moved back to Bangor last year, I've rarely had occasion to be over there. I'll keep my eyes peeled in the event that there have been any changes in its status.

Where did you hear about the one in Newington closing? I just read the one in Waterbury is closing. Use to be a boston market. But I didn't find anything on Newington, but wouldn't suprised. They had horrible service their and they alwalys look dead compared to Fridays.

Here is the aforementioned vacated Applebee's, to the left of the Dunkin' Donuts. Apologies as it's not the best photo, but I was actually driving at the time, and it was taken with my cell, so, considering that, it came out fairly well! :P

In Bensalem, PA, there is a Applebee's that's located near the Bucks County Visitor Center and Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack on Street Road.  this Applebee's, like all the Applebee's in the Philadelphia area, are franchised to The Rose Group.:)

The Applebees in Newington, CT in fact seems to have closed. They are no longer listed on the website in the locator. I drove by the restaurant twice during a visit to Wal Mart and didn't give it a second thought, but someone on another message board was wondering why the place was so dark last night.

Yet another storefront is empty on the Turnpike. It's rather sad.

I seen this and yes they have closed. I talked to my freind who is in real estate and he said they closed due to poorly run management. But that's a great location and he doesn't see that place empty for long.As for the Berlin Turnpike, there aren't many empty store fronts, theirs more coming in then leaving. Other towns have been hit harder and the ones that have have closed on the pike are all small.

I've been hearing for several months now that the Applebees in Keene, NH is closing, but I've never seen or heard anything official, it's always a pretty busy place

Funny thing I was at the bar there a few months back and there were a bunch of papers on the bar in front of me. I didn't really pay attention to them at first but when they finally caught my eye I saw what it was - The corporate newsletter for managers only.
I was really surprised it was just sitting out right in front of my seat for me to read. I read the whole thing.

It was INSULTING.

I'm not exaggerating at all when I say these were generally some of the things it said

"Managers, now remember you are going to be serving people that make less income than you do, so try anything to brighten their spirits a little, be it respect (Mr, Miss) or a friendly squeeze on the shoulder"

And basically it was just stroking the managers egos, telling them they are better than the average customer and giving them suggestions on what makes them a better Applebees member than the other employees. I should have taken it home but I didn't.

That's really the only big storefront that has closed up. I wish an Olive Garden would open on the Turnpike. It would do well. The one by Westfarms is always out the door.

As for the small storefronts, they are increasing, and I can't see what could go in those spots. There's the old Krispy Kreme/Citibank on a busy corner, the Tweeter spot, Office Depot in the Shaw's plaza will be empty. But you are right TRU, it's not a bad thing. Many plazas are full and stores are opening all of the time. As long as the landlords of these properties maintain the empty storefronts , keeping the Turnpike attractive.

The IHOP on Skiff Street in Hamden, CT will soon close.  It will relocate nearby as Applebee's on Dixwell Avenue will be re-branded as an IHOP.  As you know, in addition to the brands IHOP and Applebees being owned by the same company, the Hamden IHOP and Applebee's are owned by the same franchisee.

To me at least, Applebee's was the original "casual dining neighborhood grill & bar".  It was one of the first chain of this style to open.  It's still my favorite place to go in all the other similar choices.

I'm not sure if they're on thin ice, but changed their logo and they are rolling out a refreshed concept.  It looks good.  However, i'm not so sure about the merger with IHOP.  One example: Applebee's in Bedford NH has closed and re-opened as an IHOP...

Out here in the Philadelphia area, all of the Applebee's are franchised locations owned by The Rose Group
