Edible Arrangements is a chain of shops nationwide based in Wallingford, Connecticut that sell fruit and floral gift basket arrangements. They're branching out into adding a new section called "Edible to Go" serving Fresh Smoothies and Yogurt based drinks. The Merdien, Connecticut location is relocating to add the "Edible to Go" concept.

MERIDEN â€" The Edible Arrangements store at 425 S. Broad St. will be leaving its 10-year-old home in the Park Plaza and moving to 833 E. Main St.

The move to the Dunkin’ Donuts plaza gives the fresh fruit franchise more room to make its fruit bouquets and serve Edible Arrangements’ fruit smoothies, frozen yogurt drinks, and coffee.

“This is the new look for the franchise,” said owner Farrukh Farid. “This store is going to be the first one with a new look."

When Edible Arrangements opened the store on South Broad Street (Route 5) in 2007, the plaza had a Blockbuster video store and a McDonald’s, which drew significant traffic. The Blockbuster store closed in 2012 and McDonald’s moved next door to Townline Square. Meriden Wine & Spirits, a Napa Auto parts store, a dance studio, health supplements store, and financial offices remain. Many have niche customers, and don’t rely as much on high traffic or visibility.

A recent rebranding is promoting the company’s new Edible to Go product line.

The new location at 833 E. Main St. puts the store between Jake’s Wayback Burgers and Dunkin’ Donuts, in the former location of a Verizon Wireless store. A new MedXpress walk-in health clinic is being built on the side lot.

The plaza is less than two years old and is part of an upswing in retail activity along East Main Street.

The new location also gives Edible Arrangements more street visibility.

“Great news,” said Juliet Burdelski, the city’s economic development director. “That will be good for the retail mix along East Main Street. The area is very lively and more retail should generate more traffic for the other retailers in the area.”

Edible Arrangements International LLC is headquartered in Wallingford. The fruit bouquet delivery business was founded in 1999 by Tariq Farid, a 16-year-old in the flower business. The company now has 1,200 locations worldwide, 1,191 in the United States.

Work on the new store is expected to be complete by mid-August, Farid said.

I shopped their store for a gift recently, did not find a single thing worth buying.

Not sure about what they sell, but ours seems to have trouble keeping employees, at least based on how often they are advertising for help in the paper :)
